There are two types of configurations :
(1) E-configuration (2) Z-configuration
On assigning of the configurations, the group's priorities depends upon the atomic number of the atom attached to the double bond. The higher the atomic number, the higher the priority of the group.
E-configuration : When two groups of higher priority are on opposite sides of the double bond.
Z-configuration : When the two groups of higher priority are on the same side of the double bond.
