This excerpt represents the heavy influence that European culture has had on the Japanese culture. It expresses the newer version of the Japanese life, expressing how The Great Wave shaped European influences while still maintaining the Japanese "ingredients". His views are also clearly mixed, once he shows content by having this new standard but discontentment on seeing your culture getting "lost".
