Answer:

Spinal cord is about 45 cm long and is present in the vertebral canal of  vertebral column. It is made up of two nervous tissue grey matter and white matter. It extends from upper atlas to lower region of first lumbar vertebra.

Through spinal cord many nerve arise which contain sensory and motor axons which perform function of signal transduction. The spinal cord performs two major functions:

1. It transmit the sensory impulse from sensory ascending tracts and motor impulse from motor descending tracts to and from the brain.

2. Helps in generating reflex action very fast by activating motor neurons present in spinal cord.
