One way water can get dangerous to drink is when we spray lots of pesticides near lakes and rivers where they collect water from for us to drink, so they can remove and kill ants and other insects. They also spray different pesticides to get the grass and other plants to grow better. Some of the pesticides may be carried over to the water.
Absorbtion - through mud
Evaporation - in hot countries when the pesticide gets evaporated and rained onto a waterstorage facility
People transporting contaminated mud near a water supply.

Hope this helps! (The last one is a bit iffy)
