When dealing with operations and singificant figures we look for the number with least significant figures and that will be the number of significant figures we report, for the numbers inside the parenthesis we can see that we are susbtracting a 3 significant figure number to a 4  significant figure number, and the mupltiplying them. Therefore the result must be reported with 3 significnat figures:

(3.478-2.31)*(4.428-3.56) = 1.013824 = 1.01
