Answer:

The answer is: GAS describes how organism's respond to stress over time.

Explanation:

Stress- is a mechanism whereby an organism adjusts or responds to stressors around them. Since it is very hard to eliminate stress in our everyday lives, it becomes very essential to know how an organism responds to stress over time. This is known as "General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS).

The GAS consist of 3 stages, which an organism naturally follows during a stressful situation. These are: Alarm Reaction Stage, Resistance Stage and Exhaustion Stage.

Alarm Reaction Stage- From the term itself, this alarms or signals the body that there is a stressor. Initial symptoms are felt here such as increase heart rate and blood pressure. It prepares the body to either fight the stress or flee from it, thus the term "fight-or-flight" response.

Resistance Stage- After the exposure, the body now enters a stage wherein it starts going back to its normal condition, such as repairing the levels of heart rate and blood pressure. It is very important to resolve stress at this stage in order to prevent the body from getting used to it. If the the body gets used to stress for a long time, it resists thus creating an elevated heart rate and blood pressure all the time. This can lead to serious condition.

Exhaustion- this happens when a person has experienced a prolonged stress and wasn't able to cope with it. The person will then feel hopeless and fatigue all the time. This can also lead to depression.

So, the stages clearly show how the organism responds to stress.
