Answer:
The Pythagorean Theorem can be used on a right triangle to find a missing side's length.
[tex]a^2+b^2=c^2\\c= hypotenuse \\a ,b = legs[/tex]
A dog's Frisbee is thrown 7 feet east from it's owner. The dog is 5 feet away from the owner. How far is the dog from the Frisbee?
Knowing the directions of the compass, the model should form a right triangle.
5 and 7 would be the legs. How far the dog would be from the Frisbee would be the hypotenuse.
We need to solve for the hypotenuse using the Pythagorean Theorem.
[tex]5^2 + 7^2 = c^2\\25 + 49 = c^2\\74 = c^2\\\sqrt{74} = 8.60232526704[/tex]
8.60232526704 ≈ 8.6
c ≈ 8.6
The dog is about 8.6 feet from the Frisbee.

Answer:
Part 1: you know the height of the latter and the distance of the slide to the latter, but you don't know the length of the slide that needs to be replaced due to being broken.
i used a slide. the height of a ladder is 10 ft, the distance from the ladder and the end of the slide is 20 ft. so you needed to find the length of the slide to complete your "triangle".
i cannot add a picture so i hope you can work with that. you can also alter the numbers so that it isnt the same when you turn it in (turnitin will detect if another student put this answer) so i suggest altering the numbers.
here is my work:
10^2 + 20^2 = x^2
100 + 400 = x^2
500 = x^2
√500 = 22.360679775
22.360679775 = 22.3
x= 22.3
So the slide is about 22 feet long.
