Have you ever thought about what makes someone an outsider? Whether someone chooses to be an outsider or not they all might feel alone. This essay will be about how someone fells like an outsider when they are perceived as different from their family, when there is a change in the family, or when they are considered to be of a lower class.

To begin with, people might feel like outsiders when it comes to changes in family like Harry and Cinderella did. Harry felt like an outsider because of how the Dursleys treat him. “Ever since Harry had come home for the summer holidays, Uncle Vernon had been treating him like a bomb that might go off at any moment, because Harry Potter wasn’t a normal boy. As a matter of fact, he was as not normal as it is possible to be.” (paragraph 23) This shows how harry is treated differently. Cinderella felt like an outsider because of how her stepmother and stepsisters treated her. “She employed her in the meanest work of the house. She scoured the dishes, tables, etc., and cleaned madam’s chamber, and those of misses, her daughters. “She slept in a sorry garret, on a wretched straw bed, while her sisters slept in fine rooms, with floors all inlaid, on beds of the very newest fashion, and where they had looking glasses so large that they could see themselves at their full length from head to foot.” (paragraph 2) this explains how cinderella is treated differently and that makes her feel like an outsider.

To continue, people also might feel like outsiders because of the lower or higher class they are in .Martha lives with her grandfather and her family doesn’t really have a lot of money so she wanted to win the scholarship jacket but the principal and administrators want to charge the jacket so that they could give it to a girl who’s dad owns a store in town and has more money. “Then if you pay for it, Marta, it’s not a scholarship jacket, is it? Tell your principal I will not pay the fifteen dollars.” (paragraph 19)” It was a very sad and withdrawn14 girl who dragged into the principal’s office the next day. This time he did look me in the eyes. "(paragraph 21) This shows how she feels like an outsider because she is not getting the scholarship jacket.Rousaura also felt like an outsider because she thought Luciana was her friend and that she had been invited because she was her friend but instead, she was there only as a maid or “pet”. “Ah yes, your

friend,” her mother grumbled. She paused. “Listen, Rosaura,” she said at last. “That one’s not your friend. You know what you are to them? The maid’s daughter, that’s what.” (paragraph 7)” “You really and truly earned this,” she said handing them over. “Thank you for all your help, my pet.” (paragraph 64) this explains how Rosaura feels like an outsider.

In conclusion, people feel like outsiders when they are perceived as different from their family, when there is a change in the family, or when they are considered to be of a lower class, just like harry, cinderella ,Martha and Rosaura did .
