Answer:
It took Pedro 4.1 hours to reach the lake.
Step-by-step explanation:
What we know:
-Mike hiked to a lake in 4.5 hours
-Mike hikes at an average rate of 4[tex]\frac{1}{5}[/tex] miles per hour
-Pedro hiked to the same lake
-Pedro hikes at a rate of 4[tex]\frac{3}{5}[/tex] miles per hour
So first we can use the information about to Mike to find out how long the journey of the hike is to the lake. So if Mike travels at 4 [tex]\frac{1}{5}[/tex] miles per hour, and reaches the lake in 4.5 hours, we can multiply the rate of the miles he travels per hour, by the number of hours it took to reach the lake, to find the distance. If we do that we find the distance to be 18.9 miles.
Now we find how long it took Pedro to reach the lake. We already have two of the three needed parts of the equation. We have his rate, 4[tex]\frac{3}{5}[/tex] miles per hour, and the distance to the lake, 18.9 miles. Following a similar process as we did Mike, we need to use the information to find the time. We can divide the distance by his rate in order to find this number. If we do this (18.9/4[tex]\frac{3}{5}[/tex]) you get 4.1, so it took Pedro 4.1 hours to reach the lake.
Hope this helps! :)
