Although when Louis XIV France was a great power it had many internal problems. Those problems were mostly the product of bad economical policy. Rulers and ruling class were spending too much money, while the Third Estate was suffocated by heavy taxation. Wars that France led during the reign of next leaders were quite unsuccessful, especially Seven Years War. Debts were enlarged, but the most of them laid on the back of the Third Estate. They asked for more respect, representation in political institutions, lowering of taxes. Ruling class had no empathy for them. That is why they decided to start a Revolution that led to creation of Republic.
