After lunch, and just after Daisy suggests they all go to town, Tom realizes, for the first time, that Daisy has shown/"said" she loved Gatsby, without actually saying those words. As a result, Tom aggressively pushes everyone to go to town (which is New York City). On the way, Tom has to get gas and sees Mr. Wilson at his garage/gas station.
