Free speech is the ability of the citizens of a country to have the freedom to express their views, and to make statements without interference from the government.

Free speech is protected by democratic countries who give the citizens the power to elect their leaders and to make vital decisions that affect the country.

However, there are some situations where free speech may have to be temporarily suspended such as:

  • When there is a security challenge.
  • When such speech has to do with obscene words or slurs
  • When such speech is used to perpetrate fraud, etc

The two clashing meanings of free speech are:
