After the French and Indian War or the Seven Year War. They were in a lot of debt, so they taxed the colonies. The colonies protested in violent ways thus turning into the Boston Tea Party. Making the British mad, they impost the Intolerable act. The colonies lost a lot of rights, and they think they no longer need to be ruled by the British making them rebel.
