During an assessment 30 minutes following delivery, the nurse notes the fundus is firm, the perineal pad is saturated, and bleeding occurs in a trickle. What should the nurse suspect on the basis of these assessment findings

Respuesta :

Ask the client when she last changed her perineal pad.

What does it mean when the fundus is firm?

  • The muscles are constricted and bleeding is less likely to happen when the fundus is firm.
  • The top part of the uterus, known as the fundus, is midline and palpable midway between the symphysis pubis and the umbilicus immediately following birth. The fundus is hard and at the level of the umbilicus by about an hour after delivery.
  • If it isn't firm, it will often get firmer after the massage has been given and the blood and/or clots have been removed. When your bladder is full, the uterus may occasionally be positioned off to the side. This could also make the uterus less effective at contracting, which might result in excessive bleeding or possibly haemorrhage.
