The Ural Mountains or simply Urals runs approximately from north to south through western Russia, from the coast of the Arctic Ocean to the river Ural and northwestern Kazakhstan. Continental collisions gave rise to the Urals between 250 and 300 million years ago, making them among the oldest mountains on Earth.
