CIRCLE (The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement) analyzed the way in which the youth vote of 2012 compares to that of 2008. It concluded that in 2012, there was a 50% turnout among elegible young people, compared to a 52% in 2008.
It also studied the youth's preferences. It concluded that both voters with college experience and those without it had similar party preferences during the 2012 election. 45% of non-college youth were Democrats, while 27% were Republicans and 28% Independent. Of those with a college degree, 47% identified as Democrats, 25% as Republicans and 21% as Independent.
