Suggestions (hypnotic) to inc/dec subjective intensity affected participants' ratings of both subjective intensity and unpleasantness (affect component of pain). Changes seen in S1, somatosensory receiving area. Suggestions to inc/dec unpleasantness affected participants' ratings of unpleasantness but NOT intensity. (less suffering). Changes seen in ACC, anterior cingulate cortex. 1st condition, suggestions to affect intensity created changes in activity in S1, the somatosensory receiving area. 2nd condition saw changes in ACC, anterior cingulate cortex Nalaxone.
