Probably a feeding tube which would allow fluids to go into the client if the client is not paying attention to ingesting water or other important fluids to remain hydrated. Of course this is merely a temporary fix. The nurse will then need to defer to a doctor to treat the patient's impaired thirst mechanism, or, if there is no physiological cure, then the patient should undergo some form of psychiatric help so that he or she remembers to ingest liquids throughout their daily routine.
