Phagocytosis is a process by which living cells called phagocytes ingest or engulf other cells to defend our body against infection and invasion of foreign substances. Moreover, phagocytes can be white blood cells that engulf and destroy pathogens like bacteria, dead tissue cells, protozoa, and other foreign bodies. The most effective phagocytic cells are two kinds of white blood cells, which are macrophages and neutrophils.
