Segregation is the act of setting something or people apart from others, e.g racial segregation. In this case, the concept of segregation that refers to segregation that is supported by the law is de jure segregation. It may refer to the physical and social separation of categories of people.
The racial separation which is endorsed by the law is called de jure segragation. One of the most famous example of this would be the apartheid system in Africa as well as the segregation of the African American and Caucasian American in the united states.
