I am not sure if you have any answer choices or not, but I will just try to give my own answer. Sound recordings are needed to preserve important info such as historical events. This is because audio is what I like to call "key evidence" or just proof that something happened. An example would be Martin Luther's speech. Someone could say that he said something completely different from what he actually said, and without a recording, we wouldn't actually know. Another reason for sound recordings would be songs and music. Without sound recordings, we wouldn't have songs to listen to all day and night. We would have to go to concerts in order to hear music.
