2. Article I of the constitution of the United States explains the roles and functions of the United States Congress, which is the LEGISLATIVE BRANCH of the government. The Congress is made up of two chambers - House of Representatives and a Senate.
3. Article II of the constitution of the United States explains the roles and functions of the EXECUTIVE BRANCH of the federal government. According to Article II, the executive branch is saddled with the responsibility of carrying out and enforcing federal laws.
4. As stated in the 1st sentence (or more appropriately, first clause) of Article II, section 1 of the constitution of the United States, the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. The clause also states that the President shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years.
5. The term of the President is FOUR YEARS. As mentioned in number 4 above, the first clause of Article II, section one of the constitution of the United States that the President, together with the Vice-President, shall hold Office during the Term of four Years.
6. Article 2 section 1 clause 3 of the constitution of the United States, each state will receive a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress. It states however, that no Senator or Representative, shall be appointed an Elector.
7. As stipulated by Article 2 section 1 clause 3 of the constitution of the United States, The President of the Senate is in charge of counting all the votes for president in the Electoral College. The counting shall be done in the Presence of the Senate and House of Representatives.
8. According to Article 2 section 1 clause 3 of the constitution of the United States, the Person having the greatest Number of Votes from the Electoral college shall be the President of the United States. Therefore,the President of the Unites States is selected by the Majority of votes in the Electoral College (Option B).
9. According to Article 2 section 1 clause 5 of the constitution of the United States, the three qualifications that a person must have in order to eligibly run for the office of President are as follows:
A. Must be a natural born citizen
B. Must be at least 35 years old
C. Must be an inhabitant of the United States for at least fourteen years
10. According to Article 2 section 1 clause 6 of the constitution of the United States, The Vice President takes over in the event that the president is removed from office, dies, resigns, or becomes incapable of discharging the Powers and Duties of the Office.
11. As contained in Article 2 section 1 clause 7 of the constitution of the United States, "The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation". This means that the President is entitled to a Salary. The clause also states that President’s salary cannot change (increase nor decrease) during his term, and also that asides his salary, he cannot get money from any other state or federal government.
12. According to Article 2 section 1 clause 8 of the constitution of the United States, the President-elect has to take an Oath or Affirmation before he/she becomes president. This will require him/her to say the following words, "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States..." (please refer to the clause for completion of the oath)
13. According to Article 2 section 2 clause 1 of the constitution of the United States, the President shall be the COMMANDER in Chief of the army and navy of the United States, and also of the Militia of the several States. This means that the President shall be the officer in supreme command of the country's armed forces.
14. According to Article 2 section 2 clause 1 of the constitution of the United States, the President shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment. We must note, however, that the pardon power of the President extends only to an offense recognizable under federal law.
15. According to Article 2 section 2 clause 2 of the constitution of the United States, the President shall have power to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur. This implies that although the president has the power to negotiate treaties with foreign governments, a two-thirds vote of the Senate is required in order to ratify the treaty.
