A square field has 5m added to its length and 2m added to its width. the field then had an area of 130cm^2. find the length of a side of the original field.

(L + 5)(L + 2) = 130

L^2 + 7L + 10 = 130

L^2 + 7L - 120 = 0

(L - 8)(L + 15)  = 0  Ignore the negative root  (-15) so we have

L = 8m   Answer
